Helping The Community That Helped Me
I have volunteered many of my hours to help the Carbondale allies that had held on to me even when i was being no help at all. I love Carbondale and the adults and groups that are within but carbondale started to be come a toxic place for me when bullying and social harassment started to really bother me. I started to fall into extremely unhealthy habits. Groups such as C.C.A.H ( Carbondale Council On Arts And Humanities ) decided to not look over what I was doing but to support me through thick and thin and they still have to this day. Those times have passed and it is all water under the bridge now but i will never forget what they all have done for me and I will forever be thankful. above is a picture of CRES I gave my time and my company's time to help them out with there production no charge to give back to them I went to elementary school in the above building.
Let's Hit The Runway.
2013 Green Is The New Black Fashion Show
Every year for three years now CCAH has put on "The Green Is The New Black Fashion Show" I have given my time to help with two of them. Green Is The New Black features people from all around the United States that bring in the recycled and reused clothing that is made into modern clothing for example the dress to the left was made out of can tops and the leggings are made out of rubber. The fashion show is very cool because everything on the outfit down to the earrings has to be reused or recycled in some way the only thing that can be new in the show are the shoes. Green Is The New Black has many styles ranging from modern chic to bohemian and every thing in between. This is the 2013 show I assisted with. My job in this show was to simply keep tables clean and dress the girls making sure they were ready to walk when there time came. I love all styles and the expression each item gives off so this is one of my favorite events to help with. The fashion show is held at the Carbondale Rec Center (above) the building is transformed into a great fashion hall that is capable of seating 600 the event all so has the best in lighting.
The Fair Is In The Air.
Mountain Fair Carbondale, CO
Along with the fashion show that CCAH put on in Carbondale they all so have been putting on Carbondales own Mountain Fair for over 25 years now. As it has been going on for so long and I am only 18 I have only been able to attend and assist in 8 of them. I offer my time to do a wide spectrum of things such as water detail to raffle tickets. I particularly like to help or manage the fair recycling because i feel that that is a job that is much needed and once you put in the time you really do see what hundreds of people use up. After the three day fair and during as well the recycling team will go through the number of recycling centers that are placed around that park as well as the trash cans. After everything has been gone through and put in its proper place it is sent to the recycling center and the landfill. However with proper recycling you can reduce what goes to the land fill by 2/3 if not more. When the people of carbondale are getting ready for the fair it is a whole town effort. The fair has vendors both local and non-local that feature there items ranging from jewelry to hanging deck chairs and a wide variety of food choices to. The town holds the fair in Sopris Park located right in the middle of town. As you can see from my photo on the left it is a very popular event in the town. Musicians and stilt walkers alike gather at this fair to spend three absolutely grand days and nights together going to this fair one time will show you a true sense of community as well as show you the importance of a solid community like the one I was so fortunate to grow up in. I will forever hold Carbondales Mountain Fair in my heart because of the memories that could never be made else where.
There Is A Time For Play And A Time For Work.
CARE's facility
I have always had a passion for animals and helping better there lives. When I found CARE Spring Valley it was an instant match for me. I was looking for something to occupy my time for a few hours every few days. I had wanted to work with animals I was young at the time so it was had to get a shelter to let me come in and work with them. More than a few calls later I called CARE told them about myself and my story and they agreed to let me come in. I knew if I could get that one shot they would let me stay and help them more often and with building more trust comes more responsibility and that's what I wanted. I went into CARE and helped with basic watering and food distribution at first eventually leading on to walks brushing. I volunteered there for about 6 months. I love CARE and what it does and stands for in our valley and I am proud to support it in the fight.
Time To Give Back.
Joint care pool
After I was done at CARE I decided that it would be nice to volunteer somewhere in the town of Carbondale. I found Heritage Park Care Center in town I did not call or make an appointment at all i simply walked in and was welcomed with open arms. At the center i mostly played bingo and helped at the grocery stores and lunch. It was slow going but i enjoyed it. Heritage Park is a comfortable assisted living community that serves a number of the valleys elderly making there golden years as smooth and comfortable as possible by providing top notch living for there residence.
These are only a few of the places and people I served and will continue to serve. I love working in Carbondale and I would not choose to have my business else where. The Carbondale community is like non other in my eyes the people are full of support and love for the most part and that is why i enjoy this little mountain town.
